Rank a Brand New Malaysian Website in Google for FREE

How to rank a website in Google Malaysia

Everybody wants to rank their new website to the top position in Google for more exposure that could lead to conversions. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) service could help achieve the objective, however, it is not for everybody due to certain reasons like limited budget and timing concerns.

In this article, I will share my thoughts on how to rank a “Brand New” Malaysian website in Google for FREE. This might not be applicable to existing businesses or companies.

Basically, there are three major steps to rank a website in Malaysia:

  1. Pre-Search Engine Optimization & Business Value Research
  2. On-site Search Engine Optimization
  3. Off-site Search Engine Optimization

Pre-Search Engine Optimization & Business Value Research

First of all, you need to know the market and the value that your new business is going to provide before even demand for a ranking on the Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP).

Switch your browser Google Region to Malaysia

Well, if you want to rank a website in Malaysia, the first thing you need to do is to switch your Google Region to Malaysia. This is a very common mistake for those who outsource their website to SEO freelancers who are not based in Malaysia. If you are doing it yourself and you are in Malaysia, still, make sure the Google Region setting is either set to current region or Malaysia.

How?

Go to Google main page at https://www.google.com/. On your desktop, click on the “Settings” button on the bottom right corner and select “Search Settings”. Scroll down the page to Region Settings section and select your location, in this case, you can either select “Current Region” or “Malaysia”. Click “Save” button.

Avoid Business Name that could lead to confusion

The next important thing that you want to make sure is to avoid getting the wrong name for your website. Please do not use any words or names that are similar to what has been well established in Google’s “dictionary”. For example, let say you want to create a new blog for yourself and your name is “Min Ton”. Don’t name your blog as “Bad Min Ton”, because Google will assume that people are mistyping the word “Badminton”, thus Google will not actually recognize your website (unless you do tonnes and tonnes of marketing and branding) and thus no one will ever find you.

Start a Business or Company that Provides Value

It will be a waste of time with SEO if you are not sure about your new company or business value.

Brand New Solution/Services

Although naming is part of the game, the value of your business is more important in my opinion. Let me elaborate further. Your new business or company existence has to be offering something new or fresh in the market. For example, let’s say you are starting a brand new motorcycle repair shop in your area. If you are the only motorcycle repair shop that exists in your area, the chances of ranking your website up to the top in Google is very high due to the fact that you will be the best choice in the area.

Better Solution/Services

On the other hand, let’s say you are not the first company that provides such solution or services in the area, which is in most of the case. In this scenario, the only way to justify your existence is to provide a better solution than your competitors. For example, if you implement a new technology that can repair motorcycles twice as fast as what it used to be at an affordable price, for sure you will be known of your efficiency and get to rank better than the others. Or even if your customer service is a lot friendlier than your competitors, you might as well get a chance to be featured for your good services.

On-site Search Engine Optimization

On-site Search Engine Optimization (SEO) like how you optimize the meta title, meta description, and meta tags is no longer the main factors to rank a website anymore. This is due to the fact that Google’s Algorithm has been evolved way further than that. Nowadays, SEO is not about how you present your website to Google bots, but to your audiences (human).

On-site SEO is not about presenting your website to bots but for human beings.

Google’s Mission Statement

Corporate Objectives Google’s mission statement is “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”. Google’s main focus is to push the limits of existing technology to provide a fast, accurate and easy-to-use service that anyone seeking information can access.

Do not worry that Google can’t find you

Google is pretty good in finding stuff online nowadays even without you providing them the right meta title or description. It’s all about Google crawling and technology, you just don’t have to worry about it.

Focus on the Website’s User Experience

No matter how good your meta title or meta description is, if your website is not human user-friendly, there is a slim chance that you will get ranked on top of your competitors. You need to make sure that your website is as useful as possible.

To achieve this, you will need to know:

  • What is the critical content that your audience is looking for on your website?
  • How well structured is your content on your website?
  • How is your website performance (like speed) that could affect user experience?

In summary, it’s about the content, how they are arranged and how well they get to deliver to the audience.

The content, how they are arranged and how well they get to deliver to the audience.

Off-site Search Engine Optimization

People have been misunderstood about building backlinks and web authority. Off-site Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is not about building quantity and quality links for Google Bots, instead, they should be built for your audiences (human).

Backlinks are not for Google Bots, instead, for human.

Only create Backlinks that help people

Doesn’t matter whether these are do-follow or no-follow backlinks, any useful backlinks that actually help your audiences are highly recommended.

Thus, do not buy backlinks from high-authority websites just to boost your website authority value. This won’t help to rank your website. Without people clicking the “fake” links that you bought and find it useful, Google will hardly use them as ranking factors.

For example, if you are pasting menstruation pads advertisements in a crowded men’s toilet, it just won’t help.

Create Awareness and Promote your website

Just like any new businesses, you need to tell the world that your business exists. You can do so by:

  • Register a social account like Facebook or YouTube and starts sharing information about your business.
  • Talk about your company or business in forums.
  • Publish press release that actually helps to promote your business.
  • Engage with news distributors like The Star, both online and offline.
  • If you have the budget, advertise your Brand through Facebook, YouTube, and Google.
  • and many more…

You don’t even need to create backlinks from these sources. Google can easily map them out and give you authority and rank your website higher if you have enough exposure and trust from the public.

Summary

These are my best advice to anyone that would like to rank their brand new website on Google in Malaysia. To summarize the above content, in order to rank a Brand new website in Malaysia, you will need to get your business value right, focus on website user experience and tell the world that you exist.
